SARAH THOMAS | SUGAR CRAFT QUEEN
HELLO
My name is Sarah Thomas.

I am a passionate baker, cake maker, award winning sugar artist, patient tutor, and mum to two boys. I baked from an early age, learning about cake baking from my own mum.

After a successful legal career, where I baked as a therapeutic weekend pastime, I decided to turn my dreams into reality and founded The Cupcake Oven. In 2010, after many requests, I started teaching my skills to others. At a time when good sugarcraft tutors were hard to find, I decided to become a great teacher and started offering small group and private classes in my studio in Chelmsford.
Since tutoring, I have entered Cake International (receiving 7 Gold Awards, 1st place, 2nd place and multiple 3rd places, a Silver and two Merits). I now advise (and actively encourage!) students who wish to enter. I have been published in several magazines (notably Cake Masters on many occasions; The Cake, Decoration & Sugarcraft Magazine), and I am a guest member of the Katy Sue Flower Pro Design Team.

I regularly receive requests to demonstrate online, and at Sugarcraft clubs and Guilds and have judged several sugarcraft and baking competitions.
Relocating to Lawford, Manningtree in 2016, I now work in a spacious, airy, and modern kitchen with plenty of room for 6 – 8 students. It was a move to a larger more comfortable classroom area, plenty of private parking and close to London Liverpool Street (less than 1 hour) with the station on our doorstep.

I am extremely passionate about what I do. Teaching my skills and passing on my knowledge gives me incredible purpose and satisfaction. I love the happiness on my students faces when they see what they can achieve.
Out of the kitchen, I am mum to two gorgeous boys (once upon a time know affectionately to my students as, “The Oompa Loompas”!). Also a black belt in karate (and now in a club I helped to found), my dedication and determination to succeed, strive to become better and to learn, always, reflects in my dedication to each and every one of my students.
If I don’t love what I do – I don’t do it!

I look forward to the start of our new friendship in cake!
